Smelling is Believing

Hello!

We went to visit my mom last week before she had back surgery. We should have just sent Frax! She was rather depressed, but as soon as he entered the room, her smile could have lit a streetlight!

Frax clambered into bed with her and delivered his standard 'get well' cuddles. As mom gazed lovingly into his limpid brown eyes, she said very seriously: "I believe he's got one of the biggest noses on a dog that I've ever seen!" Of course there is nothing like seeing Frax's nose up close and personal...The snozz is large!

We learned in our training classes at service dog school, that canines have 40,000 times better smell reception than a human! That explains why dogs can follow a scent even over open water! Scientists are trying to replicate the accuracy of a canine snozola~ and have been unable to beat the canine in test after test!

Your dog 'sees' the world through his nose. In my case, Jet and now Frax is able to smell the endorphins that ooze from my skin and that I breathe out prior to having a seizure, or even just getting sick! It gives me precious minutes to medicate and hopefully deflect the onset of a seizure. That wonderful big nose is opening up my world again, and I am so blessed!

So celebrate your dog's outstanding, wonderful, LARGE nose! He will use it to keep track of the goings on in the neighborhood and also to protect and keep you and your family safe. If your dog smells something then tries to get your attention, believe him and go see what's up! Remember: The Nose Knows.

Later....
