HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRAX!!!

Frax was born at the end of May. He was 15 months old when I brought him home in 2011. We've been a team six years. That makes him eight. The only concession to him being middle aged is the 'salt and pepper' of his sweet face. It only makes his sweet face that much sweeter.

He's on diet dog food now, and a weight reduction plan. He all of a sudden gained weight on his regular food. He loves veggies, so we put a can of either green beans or carrots, drained and washed out so there isn't any salt on them. Then we add it to the dog food, and put warm water over it, let it puff up a bit, so it's more filling in his tum. Plus he gets plenty of water, which all our dogs need in this weather.

In the cool of an evening, or early morning, I attach his leash to the carabiner on the side of my pink wheelchair. I get in, and we wheel about the subdivision. He likes our walks and chances to stretch his long legs. He isn't into playing ball or retrieving stuff in the backyard, which was Jet's favorite form of exercise. Different strokes for different folks.

He never lost his tuck-up, a pups' waist-line. Goal weight is 80lb. He's already lost about a quarter of the weight that had crept up on him. Frax is a Golden-Lab, or 'Goldidor'. He is 3/4 Golden Retriever, and 1/4 Lab. It's those Lab genes that make gaining weight so easy for him. They actually found a piece of DNA in Labs that predisposes them to gain weight easily. (I think perhaps my family has Labrador Retriever genes also in them!)

It's difficult to believe how the years have rolled on. All happy ones for us. It's amazing how much you can love another species. It's amazing how much they can love you too. It's made having this MS and effects from it so much easier having a dog helping me. Especially when Bill
