Ah, Springtime! Easter, birds building nests, warmer weather, and for dog owners...shedding dogs!

My family has little dogs. They swear up and down that these dogs have 'hair' not fur and don't shed. It's fur. They shed. They obviously don't shed as much as Frax...since they are 65lb on average less than he is! Less dog=less fur shedding. It's elemental.

Frax was faked out by a warm January and had started the spring shed early, then we had the weird weather in February and March and he grew it all back, and shows no signs of shedding any more for a while. He is brushed every day, and has an extremely fine short coat. He really doesn't shed much.

If you keep up with the brushing and sweeping, it's not a big deal. I accepted long ago that if I had dogs or horses or guina pigs, and they had hair, that they would shed. It's no big deal. I would feel underdressed if I went out and didn't have at least a little dog hair on me....it's my 'signature look'. lol.

Some enterprising knitters use cleaned, carded and spun dog fur in their projects. They opine that it is much warmer than wool, doesn't itch like wool, and is weather proof. Of course, dogs know this. They rather sacrifice comfort for style---that insulating property has to be grim in the summer for them!

So dog lovers unite! Embrace the fur! Rock on and shed Frax! lol.

Later!

Lisa, FX & JT
