Ew, Yuck...Dehydrated Dog Food?

Hello!
I think Frax's confused look says it all...note the raised left eyebrow! Not a gourmand by any stretch of the mind, but even Frax, who thinks rabbit leavings are great tasty treats, trash is being 'stolen' every week from us by people in a big truck, and 'cookie' is not able spoken in front of him... HE thinks dehydrated dog food is weird!
The only dogs I could believe eating it would be puppy preppers, and why would a pup need to prep?
Seriously, there are dogs that have allergies and probably do really well on this, but it seems counterintuitive. The base is usually veggie, cut up and dehydrated 'naturally'. (I think probably that means if it's a mom and pop business that they lovingly slice it and dry it in the hot sun on cookie sheets.
Of course when it makes it to your door, it isn't pour and eat...you still add the meat. I believe I would grow the entire family veggies, dry 'naturally' a slew of them on cookie sheets, invest in a dehydrater for the winter, and freeze meat for mixing when there are sales...What would you do? It's pricey, but by golly if you make it yourself, you do know what your dog is getting. If you like to put stuff up and freeze it also, it might be worthwhile if your dog was severely ill. It's really difficult to make sure they are getting the proper vitamins and minerals, even though you can surf around and get a gist of the vegetables and carbohydrates required.
Ages ago I cooked for our Dalmatians. They loved it, but it really was time-consuming, that was without trying to dehydrate it either...I lasted about a month doing that, and went back to our normal doggie food. I have a feeling Traveller and Echo each breathed a sigh of relief.
The other thought is...isn't packaged dog food already dehydrated? If you get quality food, unless you have a dog with medical issues, all should theoretically be OK. The recalls on food are normally on the lower quality, lower protein foods. It might be cheap but it can end up costing in the end.
Mom is nearly 92 and remembers when there really was no dog food. There were 'dog biscuits' you could crunch up and add to the family's leftovers, but her family wasn't rich and they couldn't afford it. Mom lost her Dad when she was just eight, and Grandma had never worked outside the home...5 kids all girls at home! Yet they kept their little white Spitz dog, Betsy hale and hearty on the leftovers from the table. As Mom says, "why they ate what we ate...we all seemed to do well!" One helpful thing is Grandpa had mini farm, and raised chickens, rabbits and had a garden. In the middle of downtown Detroit, Michigan! The house is still there! lol.
Well, gonna wrap it up...the night is breezy and cool after a beautiful sunny day in the 60's. The lonesome wail of trains wafts up from the valley floor as night settles in and we all say good-night and sleep tight. Stay.Sit.Relax. The trains sigh....All will be well... Goodnight dear friends. Woof!
Later...
LV, FX & JT Oh, many thanks Wix...it's working great!:)
