Here is another professional photo taken by Canine Assistant's photographer, 11-11-11. We should have known it would be an auspicious day!
Frax is patience personified. His calm presence on days that are rough is balm to my soul. He can ease whatever the problem might be, just by being near.
So intuitive, he presses his big frame against my body, willing me to get better with the essence of his strength and positive energy.
It's no wonder canine visitors to nursing homes, hospitals and surgery centers work so well. It seems our dogs know better than any doctor or nurse when we are sick, and that a pinch of empathy and warmth (physical and emotional) works the best healing.
Those serious brown eyes gaze back at me with undiluted love. I fall asleep to his reassuring paw on my shoulder, back or feet...and awaken to that same paw diligently making contact...
A few years ago, my dear husband came home ill. It turned out well in the end, but he was quite sick in the hospital for many weeks. Several brain surgeries later he came home, thankfully healed. Frax hasn't forgotten. He feels Bill is now his responsiblity as well. He checks in during the day just to make sure Bill is feeling OK (or might have a snack for him...you never know!)
So...off to bed and Frax is warm pressed against me at the end of a not so hot day. Funny how he just makes everything better...
Later~
