Hello!
This title is an off the cuff quote by my hero Jennifer Arnold. It's not at all what you think! Dogs and puppies are social creatures. Sleeping in a dog bed isn't always doable especially when first coming home with your service dog!
You really do need to reconsider things. Your service dog is there literally to 'protect and serve'. You are hampering him in his ability to do that when he is sleeping on the floor, even next to your bed. If he is sleeping that close, for heaven's sake, let him up on the bed! He won't hurt anything on top of his own personal blanket at the foot of the bed, if you are that persnickety.
True story: At eighteen months a medium to large-sized dog is not mentally or physically a grown-up. It takes twenty-four months to 'get it together' and really be an adult. So...if you were fifteen years old and expected to do an adults work, even if you trained from day one with the utmost love and devotion, don't you think you might be a bit homesick for a while, even if you had totally fallen in love with 'your person? Of course you would!
One pup was terribly upset to his tum after coming to live with 'his person' and her hubby as a C.A.S.E. Dog....they do N.O.A.H and Canine Assistant's outreach in the community. The pup's 'people' are volunteers for CA. Anyhow, this pup was having a rough first night and upset tum. They hadn't snuggled him into bed with them... well... 'cause he was throwing up! The C.A.S.E. Momma called Jennifer to ask for advise. The suggestion was to put him in bed with them. With some trepidation...they did. All was fine ever after.
When the C.A.S.E. Mom called with the morning update good news that putting the pup in bed had worked...Jennifer came up with the classic: “well...it must be all in who 'ya sleep with!” Everyone laughed with relief!
That is why CA is so special. Jennifer Arnold is able to see into the mind, heart and soul of her canines and just knows as any mamma would know, what her teenager needs when they are having a tough time!
So...again folks, it all revolves around the power of love. If you remember one thing, remember that...and you will have a wonderful life with the dogs in your life and the people too! If you live in love and give it freely to those around you~ well, life sure gets better a lot quicker. Dogs know.
Later...
