Hello!
There's a change in the air, and it's not just that Summer is here! Just as the seasons evolve, theories of the canine-human bond do as well. We've spoken of it in depth on this blog. The love and bonding between a service dog team is nothing short of amazing. Watching it happen, and an honored part of it was a turning point in my life, in many others that crossed our path, and continue to do so.
Jennifer Arnold, founder of Canine Assistants in Milton, GA is an angel in our hearts for gifting first Jet, then Frax to help with my seizures and mobility issues brought on by MS. With each litter of pups that go through their program, Jennifer seeks to refine and improve the bond and lives of each human-canine team.
I cannot encourage you enough to listen to these words she has recently written, and check out the link to reading more about Bond-Based Choice Teaching®
Here is Jennifer in her own words:
“But our current methodology, Bond-Based Choice Teaching® , represents a profound change in philosophy. We've built an entirely new framework based, not on reward and punishment, but on education facilitated by trust. We have moved from controlling our dog's behavior with commands or cues to helping our dogs learn to control their own behavior. The results are nothing short of astounding. This approach has drastically increased our appreciation for the capabilities of dogs, the depths of their intelligence and their unwavering commitment to making humans happy.” Jennifer Arnold, CEO and founder of Canine Assistants, Milton, GA

Hopefully, this link will go through, but if not, no worries. Go to canineassistants.org and check out this wonderful organization that has given me, and hundreds if not thousands now, a new leash...ahm lease on life! I know, I'm a shameful booster of Canine Assistants, but I can't help it. If your world had closed down around you and suddenly a stranger held their hand out and pulled you up and out of that place....wouldn't you shout it from the mountaintops? That's kinda where I am at. And oh, forgot to mention...like me, Jennifer has MS. She's accomplished all this on her own with that. How's that for courage? Her story is a story of hope, courage and dedication to others that we could all well emulate in our own lives to the best of our ability. One can give back and pay it forward...Jennifer is living proof of that!
Later...
