* This is Frax & I very early on. Someone under the height of 4ft has draped their father's necktie around Frax...who really doesn't like it. I'm attempting to remove said tie. He rocks a good bandanna but isn't into three piece suits! The service dog 'suit' is enough for him! :)*

JUNE 26TH IS NATIONAL TAKE YOUR DOG TO WORK DAY !!!

Hello!

June 26th is “take your dog to work day!” Exciting, but probably still not everyone can. I'm thinking specifically about perhaps a plant where they package food or something, or say a top-secret military installation where you must have clearance to the nth degree to sign into work. Since Knoxville has both of these type businesses, it came to mind. Although a dog would keep national secrets better than any human! Knoxville is nothing if not eclectic. I've read where take your dog to work day has really worked out fantastically in businesses where it makes sense. The essential ingredients: 1. The boss is dog friendly, and so are all the staff 2. planning...don't spring it on the boss on June 25th at 5pm...that's asking a bit much!Do use practical common sense, if your dog is a Mastiff or Great Dane...it is not going to work in 99% of situations. If your dog 'hates' other dogs and doesn't care who knows it...won't work! It's a privilege being able to bring your dog to work. Make it easy for your boss to say “OK” for next years day, instead of “never again!”Bring in a beautiful pup! Do everything you normally do to spiff him up. Have something to put his water and any food in. Schedule his outside time. Don't over stay your break time...if you know your dog takes forever going to the bathroom, take him to work with you next year after you've worked on that. If pup does #2 be ready. Take several plastic grocery bags with you. If it happens, invert over hand, scoop, pull it off your hand, tie it and throw it in the trash. It's just good manners to poop-scoop. Bring items your dog loves and will keep his attention for long periods. Leave the squeaky ones at home...he's at work. There's a lot to 'take your dog to work day'. It's not for every dog and their person. What comes to mind is a lovely butterscotch cocker spaniel named Lacy for the freckles over her nose. I cleaned her person's home when I was in High School. Lacy was great, except for one thing. She got super-excited when anyone new showed up~ and would whiz all over their feet and the entry. Nothing worked to fix the issue. I was assured Lacy was healthy, it just was 'her little problem.' That owner could never take her dog out in public...ever...because of “the problem”. They lost some precious 'good memory' times due that sadly. If your dog is ready and your boss is as well, go for it! It just might be that your place of work will become dog-friendly all the time and you'll be one of the lucky folks that can bring their dog to work all the time!Frax has fluttered those eyelashes while I typed this up! OK, OK! Now you see why he was at CA eighteen months before he was teamed...and I had to go and be re-taught each time. It's a lot of work to take a canine out in public and into a human's world. It's worth it though, for both of you and the enjoyment and memories you'll make!

Later...
