Hello!
Today is a hard story, but with a happy ending. In Bruster, NY a woman working with her service dog is alive tonight due to the actions of her hero service dog Figo. The owner, Miss Stone walked into a crosswalk, when a bus ran into them. Figo threw himself in front of his owner and at the bus, attempting to prevent her from being injured.
His owner is pretty banged up with numerous broken bones and is in a hospital. The eight year old Golden Retriever Figo also has had surgery at his regular Veterinarian’s and is recovering there as well.
When they attempted to take his person to the hospital, Figo was determined to go with her, despite the injuries he had received.
A policeman at the incident said that he had never seen a dog perform such a heroic action before, to literally throw himself into the path of the bus.
The bus driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. No one on the bus was injured.
The Vet hospital will take care of Figo until Miss Stone is able to retrieve him from the hospital.
This is one of those stories that make a service dog owner gulp and sniff down some tears. Tears for the injuries both received, and a gulp for the wonder of the love of her partner to lay down his life so that she could live. Because that's the nut of it folks. These dogs love us more than their own lives. They would die for us in an instant. How many people out there know that someone else would lay down their life in an instant to save them~ no thought other than their person's welfare?
Prayers go out for both these two tonight. I for one will hold my service dog a bit closer tonight.
