Raining Cats n' Dogs!

Hello!
An amazingly rainy day! It wasn't just rain, it was biblical quality rain! It came down in sheets, in buckets, raining cats and dogs! Frax was totally NOT amused going out in it, since he is the only retriever that hates water with a vengeance, as discussed previously.
There was nothing for it, had a regular MD appointment, so off we went, with Bill at the helm. We passed a sportage vehicle with a bright yellow canoe on top of it, it seems they were better fitted out than the rest of us on the road! It was amazing the amount of water that came down in just a short amount of time! We passed small drainage ditches that looked like raging rivers, and small culverts transformed into whitewater waterfalls! It was dark as evening, yet it was nine in the morning!
Bill took his time, and we arrived safely and on time. He is a wonderful driver. We all got pretty wet getting into the facility, despite parking quite close, and Bill using an umbrella. Frax got pretty wet, and was decidedly out of sorts. The three of us sat in chairs with the water pooling around our feet. Bill and I became aware of a decided smell...unpleasant and permeating the air around our seats. It traced to one decidedly put-out service dog named Frax.
I looked at Frax. Do you reek? I asked. He rolled his eyes at me miserably. He loves to be stylish and tip top...and he decidedly wasn't that. Besides being drenched, he smelled, well, like a wet dog! “I told you it was time for a bath last week!”, I whispered to Frax, patting his sodden head to reassure him. He grumbled to himself. Bill opined that washing him at home was too much for me, plus Frax doesn't fit in the shower...you have to do one end, flip him around and do the other end...hoping he won't shake all over the bathroom...which never happens. I hated to agree, but Bill's right again. It's daunting thinking of washing Frax at home. I can trim his toes fine, and brush him till he shines like a rooks wing, but his largeness is daunting when it comes to our bath or shower, built for regular sized humans, not extra-large retrievers.
We all dried out during the visit, but got drenched all over again on the way out, the thunder shaking the actual MD facility!
Once home, Frax literally, and figuratively steamed the water off. Reeking of wet dog. He couldn't go up on the bed (his fav on a rainy day!) till he was completely dry. Bummer. Then he overheard my call to the vet's for his Friday morning scheduled de-stinkifying bath! The end to a terrible pup day! He was morose all day, even after a crunchy bone, which normally perks him up.
Bill had to work later in the day, and I spent the day cleaning inside, then curled up with a nice book. Sometimes ya just have to have a rainy stinky day!lol
