Frax Filling In

8-6, 8-7-2015

Hello,

This is Frax. I usually let Mom do all the work of telling how our days go, and the adventures we have together as a team, but she is under the weather from a 'outpatient procedure', whatever that means, so I'm gonna give this computer thing a whirl. The typing really isn't too difficult, since I've watched closely and practiced when she hadn't noticed. I've got nice large paws with a good dewclaw on each, they fit the keys pretty nicely, if I say so myself. I love that spell-check function...it fixes all the errors in my typing! Mom even has the voice-activated way to type...but I don't think the software could translate my 'yodeling' into English. Bummer. Anyway, typing is working out well.

We've had a busy and eventful few days. Mom had to drink some really nasty smelling water for some test the doctor wanted her to take. I don't know why he couldn't just let her take it online or with a pen and piece of paper! It seemed rather mean to make her drink that stuff~ worse than that she wasn't allowed to eat anything for over a day! That's just uncalled for! All she could do was drink water. I felt bad for her, and snuggled up. I gave her several toys and a shoe or two to perk her up, but I couldn't drag the plastic dog food container into the dining room for her to have a snack...

The next morning before I had a chance to properly digest my excellent meal of dog food and warm water....mmmmm...all warm and gravy-like, and it smells...oh divine. I gobble it up as fast as I can, I know Mom and Dad wouldn't take my food and eat it, heck, I would share it with them if I could, but I have this habit of eating my food too quick, and Mom and Dad agree that adding water slows me down a bit and is comforting. It is comforting. Food in general is that....So...oh...I was digesting the most excellent breakfast and we all got ready to go somewhere. Neither Mom or Dad ate any breakfast either! That's not good for anybody. I was getting concerned. This was just weirder and weirder, so I stayed as close as I could to Mom, trying to pick up any vibes.

Mom seemed tense, and kinda nervous. Dad did too. We got in the car, after I got my stylish vest on and my harness. We didn't drive all that far, just to what the humans call a 'outpatient surgery clinic'. It smelled just like a hospital to me. The staff seemed happy to see me. They let me stay with Mom till she had to go back somewhere else. I lay my head in her hand and up her arm the entire time, letting her know I was there for her and wouldn't let anything bad happen. Then they took her away, and I was terribly concerned!

Dad and I waited and waited. It seemed a very long time, and it smelled bad in the room. Other people waited in groups and their vibes were tense just like Dad's. It made me worry more. Dad was very good about talking to me and rubbing my ears. That always helps during times like this. Then I offered him my paw to hold and we waited like that awhile. I could feel him relax the longer we held paws. It helped me to relax as well. It seemed to relax the other people waiting, they spoke with Dad and everyone chatted about dogs, which is a relaxing topic in general. The vibes in the room changed, and the worry smells off the other people seemed lessened in the room. The smell of fear from everyone definitely lessened and that made me feel so much better...I know Dad felt better for it too.

After a long while, Mom was back! She seemed kinda sleepy and gave Dad and I a goofy grin when the nurse wheeled her on out! I gave her a big hug and kissed her hands. I would have tried to jump up and fit in her lap, but I know that's what they call a “big no-no”, so I didn't do it. No-one could stop me from wanting to though....so my tail did all the 'talking' for me...whirling around a mile a minute!

Dad brought the van around with me riding behind. They loaded Mom into the front seat and we started back home. I would rather they had put her back with me, where I could keep an eye on her. Since they didn't, I had to settle for sticking my head through the seats up front, and leaning my head on Mom's shoulder. She smelled terrible...a horrid gassy smell was blowing off her each time she took a breath or spoke! It was very concerning. Couldn't she tell? Both she and Dad are terrible at smelling anything, but you'd think they could smell this! What in the world did those folks give her? I won't let them take you back to that awful smelling place again Mom. I promise! You must have made that doctor really mad about something. Maybe you need to bring him a shoe or something next time you see him, just to mend fences so this doesn't happen again.

We ate at a familiar family restaurant. Dad said that Mom “needed something easy on her stomach since she hadn't eaten in a while.” I agreed totally. It's like that in our pack. We agree on most everything. It's the perfect pack, small but awesome. As Dad says about Mom and I all the time. “Small but mighty.” and laughs. Now I think I know what it means. There were delicious crumbs under the table that I inspected and vacuumed up when no-one was looking, much. I shouldn't do that, but it's such a temptation, and honestly, I'm doing these folks a favor. Now the hostess doesn't need to vacuüm around where we were sitting. It's a win-win proposition I think. Mom and Dad don't think that, and urge me to cease when we are out. I try to be very subtle about it, and only vacuüm when they aren't looking. It works about half the time.

After we ate, we went home. I was very glad since my morning nap had totally been interrupted by having to take Mom to the awful smelling place. We tucked Mom into bed, and I gladly snuggled up to her, offering her my presence and comfort as she recovered from whatever torture she had just endured. Mom was happy I was there, and settled in. I protected her while she napped...till my eyes got too heavy and I sank into a blissful sleep where I was chasing bunny rabbits across big puffy white and pink clouds...very strange...there was this strange scent in the dream like what Mom had blown out of her mouth and nose earlier...

So that was our interesting day. Mom is up and around more today, I figure she will notice I've taken over the computer soon, so I need to wrap things up and post this before she figures things out. I know she's noticed that I watch intently while she types...never figuring out I was learning how to type and paste just like she was! What fun! Humans never figure that we can learn that type of thing. Our tribe (canines) like to keep that rather quiet. If they knew how intelligent and how much we understand they might just freak out! LOL. It might be interesting...hmm. Anyway...it's been great taking over the reins for a few days and letting you know whats up. Mom will be back and updating you all soon I am very sure.

Later,

FRAX
