A Bone-if-ied Find In North Carolina!

Hello!

There's a really cool find in North Carolina, right where my Dad used to live, and where my first service dog, Jet loved to dig in the sand! Prehistoric shark teeth! Amazingly big! Frax has lovely white teeth, but even he is jealous of these!

A very lucky girl on vacation in North Carolinas Grand Strand found prehistoric shark teeth on the beach as she searched the seashells! The fossilized shark teeth, some as big as a human hand have been found at North Topsail Beach and Surf City, North Carolina.

The teeth once belonged to Megalodon the largest shark ever to live! Researchers say that the teeth are from about 2.6 million years ago! Experts from North Carolina's Aurora Fossil Museum in Aurora say that by comparing modern shark teeth to these ancient shark teeth they can estimate that every inch of the fossilized teeth equals about ten feet in shark. Applying this to the teeth that have been found and the sharks were about sixty feet long! That is three times the size of an average great white shark today.

They are unsure why exactly Megalodon continued to grow so incredibly large, but the predator was amazingly strong its jaw strength has been estimated at three times the strength of a Tyrannosaurus Rex! The teeth found the last few days in North Carolina are only ones of hundreds ever found. Apparently when it comes to prehistoric shark teeth North Carolina is the place to look for them. The recent storms and beach erosion likely are the reasons so many of these teeth have been found lately.

The girl found hers on two separate days in different places on the beach. Her father initially didn't pick the first one up because the gum part was showing, and he thought it was just a rock. She wants to keep the teeth and pass them down in her family, because she “has never seen anything like it.”
