Hero Dog Loses Life In Paris Raid: A Tribute

Hello,

Unfortunately, these ARE sad days. The Service Dog community lost one of it's best and brightest when they lost Diesel during the Paris raid that killed three cowards. Below is a tribute to Diesel, a dog that Frax and I would never had met or even heard about. Diesel's heroic death has profoundly touched the world however. It's estimated that every police dog saves the lives of at least 10 officers, and does the work of that many as well.

JeSuisChein, Diesel.

HERO DOG LOSES LIFE IN PARIS RAID: A TRIBUTE

My husband and I have been out of town, and as everyone can relate to, we are just now catching up with things that have transpired while we were gone. As anyone who knows me is aware, I often do stories about the abundant and divergent lives that service dogs live in the U.S.A., and elsewhere. I try to peel back a bit the mystery and the fascination that the public has for these wonderful dogs, that help us not only in the public sector, as in police dogs, but in the private sector as guides for the blind, mobility assistance dogs, seizure and diabetic response dogs and the list gets bigger and bigger each day. I have a personal interest, since I owe my life to two of these dogs...mobility and seizure response dogs.

Often, when a person dies, and is well-loved we try to make some sense out of the senselessness of a death that we didn't see coming, one that has the ability to tear at the very fabric of our society. The deaths of the people in the Paris attacks were and are like that. I think specifically on the young American college student, cut down in the flower of her youth, all that potential and happiness cut off to satisfy the blood lust of a few psychotic individuals for a political cause wrapped in the guise of religion.

I would posit to those who mourn the life of this beautiful and talented police dog, who was doing what he loved to do with the one person in his life he loved to be with. How many folks that pass away could have that said about them. Not too many. Diesel would have been retired next year. He had lived and loved and had worked at what he was born and bred to do. No dog can ask for more fulfillment than that. No human either.

I've written before that love goes on. Diesel's passing won't be forgotten by the police that had the courage to conduct that Paris raid. His life will be remembered by his handler forever, this I know, because I know how tight the bond is between those who are lucky enough to experience the relationship of a lifetime with their service dog; whether public or private. It's a special bond, and one that not even the power of death can break.

Love goes on. Diesel gave his all so that the rest of humanity can sleep a bit safer tonight. He would want no higher honor. So, hard as it is, when sorrowing the loss of such a fine helper, let us celebrate a life well-lived. How fine for a dog to live a life complete...right up to the time they cross over and meet their creator face to face! Proud dog, hero, boon companion! God Bless Our Service Dogs! JeSuisChien!

Today, Diesel sacrificed her life during a raid to capture terrorists responsible for the massacre in Paris.

We salute you! ‪#‎JeSuisChien
