Computer Hell

Hello~
The computer crashed last week. Bummer. But not as big a deal as you would think. An inconvenience. Nearly immediately, I found a reconditioned model

that was the same exact model as the one that was showing signs of a meltdown. I am scavenging from the old one to build up the RAM on this 'new to me' one.
I like the idea of reconditioning a laptop. It's much better than throwing things out. I've learned to keep the last laptop so it can be scavenged from if you keep getting the same model, to make the 'new to me' one exactly what you like. That's what I've been up to.
This is the third Dell Latitude I've had. Little workhorses. The Dells are popular because they can take an awful lot of abuse. I drop things a lot (Frax my helper dog can attest to that!) so a tough case is a real necessity. The new laptops are so fragile, I don't think I would like them too much. They have a lot of RAM, but that means there's more data to lose when they goof up. And they will. Trust me.
My first laptop lasted eight months! It was a Gateway. I learned to backup my work and pictures from that experience.
This time I've had a monkey wrench thrown into my computing plans. I was going to add 2GB of RAM into the new computer (simple~ one little screw and a door opens in the back...even I can do that!). The issue is I can't get the plate to come off either one of the computers, and I put one of them in! Didn't know my own strength. My hubby can't wrench them off either, so I'm taking it somewhere they might have a tool to wrench them out and put the plate into the 'new to me computer'.
It's rather embarrassing, like asking someone to open a jar of mayonnaise for you. The plates are right there...and I can't get 'em loose! Annoying. So I'm up and computing, just with less storage than usual. Not a biggie.
My hubby still is completely thrown by me not wanting to deal with a new computer. But they are not built to last. And they don't have a DVD player. And I like the DVD player. Makes sense. Movies are on DVD. Pop one in and watch it. The new ones have got it in their minds to be thinner and lighter~ great, but they also do less and less.
As you can see from the terrible picture above, Frax can't stand the computer. Unless he's trying to learn how to use it. He tries to mimic my hand movements by slapping the keys with his paw. Not good. He's been told it's a no-no but those big patty paws still wind up there. Mmmmm...could that have been the reason the other laptop died? Nah.
So. That's my technology rant. I could be wrong. But as a comeidian once said “but you're entitled to my opinion!” lol.
It's good to be back! Howdy!:)
