Squashed!!!

Frax does things very differently than my first dog, Jet. He kinda does things a bit differently period.

For example, when he first came home with us, I still had seizures, since I couldn't always figure out I was getting ill and needed to take some preventative medication. Frax responded well to the seizure, making sure I was safe, fetching Bill to my side. But then he did an odd thing...

He sat on me. *notice in the picture above, all you can see is my hand holding his leg, as he sits on me during a seizure!!!

Let me preface this with the information that I'm really little. Five foot and now that I've lost some weight, not much more than Frax himself who checks in with a substantial 75lbs! He was squashing me! Bill got him to sit beside me...not on top of me! We had a few more times of trial and error with that, till he got the swing of things and realized that squashing me wouldn't stop the seizure! (Bill took a picture of him squashing me, and that is the picture you now see!)

I have nerve pain in my legs. No problem. Frax wants to sit on them! Not a help! This was also something that we had to work on, and still need to reinforce that it's not good to sit on my legs or my feet! Instead, we have him snuggle up to my legs. He seems to think that if he lays across me he will help the pain or stop a seizure...I'm not really sure how he came up with that particular solution!

The last thing that Frax does that I am trying to catch on video, is him gently stroking my arm or forehead with his big paw when I'm not feeling well. I feel confident that he is mimicking behavior that he saw in training when he observed an actual seizure with the patient's mother at their side, stroking their arm or their face when they were ill. He's very gentle, the first time he did it we were floored. His paws are ginormous, by the way. They are easily bigger than my hands! What a sweet guy.

It definitely takes your mind off your troubles when your seventy pound lap dog sits on you! Or pats your face!
