GROANER OF A MONTH
Hello!
It's really been a groaner of a month, I agree with Frax, the world champion when it comes to groaning. Not my favorite time of year. It's rained buckets around here all month, started again last night, and we've had 40mile an hour winds since 4am. How do I know that's when they started? Because I heard a loud “CRACK...CRASH...BOOM” at 4am. Frax and I shot up in bed and looked out the window. Bill slept through it. I did the usual matrimonial “honey did you hear THAT?” to which Bill said “mmmmmmmm....” I shook him awake, “Bill I heard a loud crack out the back...do you think we lost a tree?” I got a response this time “Nooooo...it was just lightning and thunder.” Bill mumbled. Since he didn't seem worried, I wasn't and Frax and I returned to bed, and slept through the worst of the storm.
In the morning though, our neighbors down the hill lost a BIG tree by their driveway. Not sure what it was, I think perhaps an oak tree. Our poor neighbor was out till the light gave way at six thirty trying to saw all that wood into manageable chunks. Since it fell across the road, the county officials came and cut it up for him, and put it neatly next to his driveway. What a way to start the day, eh? At least it didn't fall back, which would have been on the house! We can see the tree from our backyard, which is probably why I thought we had lost a tree, the sound came up the hill...Upon further inspection, he lost two other sizeable trees as well.
We have an elderly neighbor that moved into a lovely treed lot, nice and flat, the trees mature, as well as the plantings. He's ripped it all out. Including the trees. Especially the trees. I think he was afraid that the trees would come down. I don't know what he had against the plantings. I've always thought it odd when folks buy a property then rip it all up because it's nothing like what they wanted!
Frax is doing his wiggling eyebrows, and long groans at me and the computer. Time to wrap it up for another night. Here's wishing you good sailing weather!
Later...
